Posted by Ars Technic on October 24, 2018 11:16:33I’ve been tracking the SpaceX plans for a gigafactories gigafire for a while now, and I’m happy to say that the company’s gigafunction facility in Florida is getting a real kick in the butt.
The $1.3 billion facility will be the largest in the US and will be able to make 1,500 Falcon 9 rockets per day, and it will make its debut at the end of the year.
It will also be the first gigafactor to make rocket engines.
As the SpaceX CEO Elon Musk tweeted a few days ago, the facility will also allow for SpaceX to create jobs in Florida and other states.
This is a good thing, because the jobs will pay the bills.
The gigafits jobless rate in Florida, at 3.8 percent, is about one-tenth of the national average.
The company has made an effort to recruit Florida residents into its workforce, and the company is planning to expand its facilities in other states over the coming years.
SpaceX is not the only one making spacefactory announcements, but the facility in West Palm Beach, Florida is the only gigafACTory announced by the company so far.
