OKC police said officers were fatally shot Monday in a shooting that began when an argument turned physical.
A suspect, who is being sought, was shot and killed by officers, according to police.
The city is still trying to determine whether there is a connection between the two shootings.
“It was a senseless act of violence,” Oklahoma City Police Chief Mike Nardizzi said in a statement Monday.
“We mourn the loss of three officers and the injured in the incident.”
OKC Mayor Mick Cornett released a statement Sunday night, saying that police responded to reports of a shooting in the area of West and Washington streets, but that it ended with officers shooting the suspect, the Oklahoma City Business Journal reported.
“As we all know, officers are not the only people with guns, they do not have immunity and the law has a clear definition of who is immune,” Cornett said.
“Police officers are the face of the police department and they are supposed to protect the people of this city, not to defend themselves.”
